I am minority

Posted on Nov 15th, 2008 by a.vicky : Traveller a.vicky

I am made to change. Every where I go I am told change can happen. Before this change thing started I was told that there exists an ‘axis of evil’. I am yet to figure out what this axis is all about or if this change is change of the axis.

Yes, I am minority here. Everybody else understands what change is, what axis is, what evil is. In fact everybody else understands everything else and I am the only minority.

Hey, hey no sympathy please. All my life I have lived as minority; so no big deal. Before I figure out what all this change of axis is about I will be told something new. And so again I would be in minority. Thus for ease of survival I have made peace with the fact of being in minority.

I am not an elusive type. It’s just the ‘others’ around me who makes me minority.

Country : My government has reserved around 50% seats (or may be more than 50% seats) for around 30% of the country's population. These special populations are called schedule caste, other backward classes, etc. These seats are reserved in government offices, universities and educational institutions. Not belonging to any of this special classes or caste I am minority. I have to put in double the effort to secure a college seat.  And with total seats available in relation to country’s population, life becomes a real minority.

Magazines : The magazines I read talks about women emancipation. Liberation of women is every where. I am not a woman nor do I write about women liberation and so again I am in minority.

Office : For last couple of years I have been single. Most of my batch mates are married. And those who are not are preparing to get married. The other day in my office when I mentioned the fact that I was single to my male colleague, he gave me a weird look. It was like a are-you-a-gay look.  Being straight and single makes me a minority.
